The brief required us to develop a photographic solution for the term, ‘say cheese’. Collaborating with an assigned photographer we developed a concept that revolves around ‘cheese’. Taking on the role of director/stylist the collaboration with our photographers resulted in a series of images that we narrowed down to one A2 sized landscape image that represents a particular country, culture, cuisine, period in history.
The photo solution focuses upon ‘Chalk and Cheese’ as it combined two opposing elements to create a harmonious photograph. The cheese has been carefully arranged upon a chalkboard with pieces of chalk, crackers and blue berries. The arrangement of elements is supported by the handwritten typography ‘chalk and cheese’. The decision to create typography myself was largely due to the authenticity of a handwritten style. This was supported by all other handwritten elements in the photograph from the chalkboard, the hand made elements through to the making of the cheese and the styling of the photograph. Because of all these elements behind the shoot it seemed logical to continue with the hand done qualities of the overall image.
